Homebound Ministries

“Just as you did “it”…you did it to me”

Matthew 25:40

You've all heard of Good News / Bad News!  Well the good news is that we are living longer!  With advancements in nutrition and medical services in the 20th & 21st centuries people in our nation and our culture are living longer.  This is a mixed blessing.  We all want to live longer but health care, mobility and living arrangements become some major issues for some of us “mature” adults.

Some of us in our church have or are “growing” into that category.  We have worked hard and long to have our little nest egg and retirement home.  But, sometimes with loss of spouses and health issues including lack of transportation we can become isolated and marooned in our little “Blue Heaven.”

Even though we may have been very active and big time contributors to our church in our younger years, circumstances can now make us feel cut off.  We saw that happen to each of our parents with their churches.  Sometimes relocation can be an issue.  We may close out our home place and go live close to a family member.  Or we may have a parent move from their hometown to be close to us.  And they may or may not be able to attend our church with us to become “connected.”

Homebound Ministries is an attempt to focus on keeping all of our members “connected.”  We remember those who are homebound with cards, phone calls and visits.  I've had visitors say, “I went to cheer them up, but I came away being cheered up myself!”

We always need more visitors and card senders.  Our team meets periodically to review our lists and our ministry focus.

In Matthew 25 the list for “it” includes those who are hungry, thirsty, stranger, naked, and sick.  And Jesus` response refers to when we have “done it!”  When we have responded.
