
Bill Mathys
William Mathys was born in Muncie, Indiana on October 16,
1932, residing in the same home until completing undergraduate studies
at Ball State. Seminary was then undertaken at Garrett Theological
Seminary in Evanston, Illinois. His first appointment was to the Raub
Methodist Church, a position he held during the first two years at
Garrett, followed by a two year stay in Waterloo, Indiana.
A seven mile move was made to Hamilton, Indiana for a three year
ministry before moving to Anderson First in 1961. Joyce and Bill brought
Mark with them to Anderson, and he was followed by two additional
children in the Mathys home.
During his appointment to Anderson First, Bill served as Minister of
Education and Youth, before being changed to the Minister of the Parish
his last two years. He was then transferred to Elwood where the family
stayed until 1984 when another move was made to Winamac. During those
years in Elwood, Bill also served a term on the school board and the
city council. In the seventeen years the Mathys family lived in Winamac
the church witnessed some growth in missions activity and spiritual
development.
Age finally caught up with Bill and retirement became necessary in
2001 when Bill and Joyce bought a home and moved to Anderson. Bill
continues to enjoy being involved in ministry as a member of the staff
at First UMC. |
