We serve God and show His love by helping those in need•in our local community, in our nation, and around the world. Here are some available opportunities through the church to provide direct help to those in need in Anderson. You can help by giving time, service, prayer, and/or money and needed goods. Please contact the church office (765-643-6977) for more information on volunteering or helping with any of these ministries.
Buddy BagsA bag of food is distributed one weekend a month to 500 or more students at Anderson Elementary School. More than 90% of the children at the school are eligible for the reduced lunch/free lunch program. The children who take a buddy bag of food home have an additional source of food for the weekend and can also share it with other family members. Each bag contains a variety of non-perishable food, such as canned sources of protein, granola bars, oatmeal, and fruit snacks, and can be the basis for up to 6 meals. These bags provide nutritional supplement for children over the weekend. To volunteer in this ministry, contact Johanne Coleson at 765-644-1784.
Community CaféEach Sunday evening at 4:30pm a team of volunteers serves a free hot meal to anyone in the community who needs the nourishment and fellowship. The meal includes a prayer and devotional time led by a pastor. Volunteer musicians provide a musical backdrop each week. Each guest can take home a bag of non-perishable food. More than 60,000 meals have been served since the beginning of this outreach. Volunteers include members of our church and individuals from other churches and people who benefit from the ministry. Emergency Utility Assistance
We provide financial help to people who are in potential disconnect with their gas or electric bill. On the second Wednesday of each month from 8:00am-10:30am individuals may come and be interviewed for assistance. Up to 40 individuals can receive help each month. Coffee and cookies are available for people as they wait, and a pastor provides individual prayer support as desired. To volunteer in this ministry please contact Kathy Kean at
Helping Hands PantryOffering a hand-up and not a hand-out, Helping Hands is a non-food pantry stocked with hygiene products, paper products, cleaning products, etc. One person from each family is eligible to shop for up to five items each month. Guests are accompanied by a personal shopper who assists in making pantry selections. The pantry is open two days a month: the second and fourth Wednesday from 8:30 to 11:30am and from 3:30 to 5:00pm. The pantry is run by volunteers and relies on donations to stock its shelves. If you would like to volunteer or donate to this program please contact Jane McVey at 765-623-2747.
We work with Anderson Elementary school to provide mentors and tutors for classrooms. An individual commits to serving one hour per week and works with the same teacher and classroom during the school year. Volunteers usually work one-on-one with students as the teacher requests. The individualized attention helps the students not only with their academic work but also with their needs for love and esteem. All volunteers working the school system are required to have a background check done through the police department. Contact the church office for more information.
